Indian Food in the UK( Scotland & England )

28 January, 2012 | | No Comment

Indian food continues to grow in popularity from throughout the world. In addition, it has been a staple in and around Scotland since 1809 when the first Indian food was served in coffee houses. It wasn’t until the 1940s and again in the 1970s, however, when the number of curry houses really began to increase. Today, Indian food is a very popular cuisine in Britain coming only after Chinese and Italian food in terms of popularity. In fact, chicken tikka masala is now considered one of the most popular dishes in all of England.

In the Victorian era, however, it was when Britain started borrowing from Indian dishes in terms of spices and other herbs to create new dishes that had never been seen before. Today, the same tradition continues with Indian chefs borrowing from local flavors and the freshest ingredients available in order to bring patrons the best of Indian food.

Looking for the Best Tacos in London

11 November, 2011 | | No Comment

I have a bunch of relatives in London and I am getting ready to go visit them for the holidays. I will be there for two weeks and staying with my cousins, Holly and Greta. Now, I am a California girl through and through and I am used to eating Mexican food on a daily basis. I’ve been to London before on several occasions and I usually have trouble finding things that I want to eat in the restaurants that my cousins like. I absolutely hate spending money on meals that I do not find appetizing. This time around, I’ve decided to be proactive. I have started doing my research on Mexican restaurants in London. My cousins are pretty flexible and I have no doubts that they would enjoy a tasty meal of tacos and guacamole, especially if I foot the bill! I know you are supposed to try the native cuisine when you are traveling but I seriously detest fish and chips. Give me a burrito and some salsa stat!

Making Your Own Sandwich

28 October, 2011 | | No Comment

Just how much do you like to make your own sandwich? I believe everyone who just loves to eat sandwiches would want to make a customized sandwich for themselves. At least I do. Anyway, let’s consider this scenario. Yes, a lot of us would want to prepare our own sandwich, but what about if you are going to prepare sandwiches for more than twenty people? How would you like that? It is, indeed, not easy as it seems. But although it entails a lot of work, it is not impossible. There is one catering in the New Jersey area that allows their clients to customize the sandwiches you order from them. In fact, they are all over the Garden state. They have a catering in Newark NJ caterers. They also have a catering in Newark, Meadowsland, North Bergen, and everywhere. I believe their idea of giving their clients this choice made them the best. For me, I would feel like I’m giving a personal touch to the event I am planning through the food I am serving. You can do it too with the help of a catering firm.

More Talk About Portland Pizza

10 August, 2011 | | No Comment

There is a lot of chatter around town about the best Portland pizza place and many people offer different opinions. I think some of the opinions are based on advertising, as people often will claim the best pizza is the one they see or hear on tv and radio ads all the time. This is why pizza hut and papa johns get a lot of accolades, but they are not anywhere near the best. I do like papa johns, but I find their pizza to be inconsistent. Now, when we turn to a smaller pizza joint in portland, some people claim that flying pie is the best, but all they do is overload their pizza with toppings to be unique. Sure, it is great to taste, but not the best. If you want to taste the best portland pizza, you just have to drive up glisan street to find ufo pizza.

The Bar That Suits Me the Best

6 August, 2011 | | No Comment

Having a drink is a great thing to do after a long day of work or school. However, choosing the wrong bar can turn your evening even more stressful. A bar is a place to have a good time with friends, and the ideal one should be the perfect blend between good and diverse products, a laid-back but fun atmosphere and good prices. My favorite bar reunites perfectly those three elements: Kölsch – an eccentric name outside that goes well with the eccentric nature of the place – has a great selection of food and drinks. Almost to prove its eccentricity, the coasters your drinks sit on show ads for Alcoholics Anonymous(!). When you open the menu, you get a glimpse of the whole world in beers, from German to Danish and even Chinese, all at great prices. The music, on the other hand, is a blend of rock and indie with a little bit of German folk that makes the place unique, and at the perfect volume in which you can enjoy it, but can also hear what your friends are saying. After all, my favorite bar should be a place that goes with my personality and lets me be myself: unique, relaxed and daring to try some different and unknown flavors.

Parrilla Restaurants in Buenos Aires

26 October, 2010 | | No Comment

Food from Argentina is influenced by generations of European immigration, especially from Italy and Spain. Buenos Aires is a city filled to the brim with Italian pasta restaurants, pizzerias and heladerias, or ice-cream parlors, serving Italian gelatos.

Argentine cuisine, like Uruguayan and Brazilian, is famous primarily for its beef and the vast quantities of it. The most famous of Argentine meals is the asado; based on huge volumes of carne, usually several different courses of meat, all prepared over a parrilla or wood fire grill.

A typical asado meal begins with a provoleta (grilled provolone cheese) accompanied by empanadas de carne or pollo ( beef or chicken turnovers). The provoleta is semi-hard provolone cheese, sliced about 2cm thick and cooked on the grill until the inside melts and the outside is crisp. The cheese is then seasoned with a generous amount of oregano.

Following the starters comes several courses of carne beginning with chorizos (sausage), morcilla (blood sausage), and then various cuts of both pork and beef. No marinade of any kind is used on meat for an asado. The only additional ingredient is salt, applied before and during the cooking. The meat is kept a fair distance from the coals allowing for a slow, controlled cooking usually taking at least 2 hours.
